Chattahoochee River Guide Trip – Flyfishing the Medlock and Jones Bridge Area

Spent the whole weekend on the Hooch. On Saturday, a buddy and I spent the day fishing honey holes above Medlock. The day was hot and so was the fishing. We must have caught around 40 fish, mostly stockers. We were on the water around 7:30 and caught the tail end of the release from the night before. We took most of the fish on nymphs with a few on hopper patterns. Great day to be on the water.

On Sunday, I took Jimmy Stewart from Calhoun out to the same area. Jimmy had never fly fished before. We started the morning out by going over some casting and rigging techniques. It did not take Jimmy long to get hooked up with the first fish. I could tell it was a good fish by the way the fish was running. Jimmy had the fish up to the boat when he decided to take another run and came unbuttoned. It was a nice brown that would have easily pushed the 20″ mark. Jimmy was fired up after that and continued to catch a lot of fish throughout the day. Around 3′ o clock the surface activity began to pick up with the stockers sipping midges off the surface. Jimmy was able to land 6 fish on dry flies. He ended the day with around 20 fish to hand. Not a bad day for his first time fly fishing!
